A couple thoughts on this: 1) If tribalism is a category above, then the superior tribe appears to be Christianity and we can get into numbers /history on this. 2) Mere tribalism doesn’t seem to justify social progress, for the moral values such as tolerance or charity for the outcast argued aren’t found in tribalism. Again, I can cite to the historical record on this fir successful progressive movements. I didn't want to be an atheist, but I was quite happy to figure out the monster in the bible I genuinely believed in wasn't real. Sadly, I had morals of my own, and reading the bible quickly gave me no choice but to oppose him, no matter how impossible that opposition was, my morals didn't allow me to believe he was good despite the book claiming so over and over, his actions didn't match wit that goodness. So I was very pleased when I realized it made no sense in the first place, it was a good day. No, even if a gawd exists, I don't have to agree with their morals. It's kinda digusting this need said to people. If a gawd exists, there's nothing requiring they not be evil, even if they wrote a book that says they aren't evil.

I’m a socialist English woman. Probably more left wing than any of you but because I work in a school with 10 and 11 year olds I hold an unpopular belief. Out of a year group of 25 children we have 7 who present as trans, bi. Or transanimal. Think they are a puppy and bark in class. I absolutely believe that trans people exist but it is a really low % . We do not need to be asking people how they present. Children and teenagers are being given options they don’t need. About 1% is the guess for the number of trans people. Why do I have 25% of my class saying that they are. I was a very masculine child played with the boys . I know for sure that if I were a teenager today I would believe I was trans. It worries me. I have a friend who is a trans women. She hates being called a woman she is a trans woman. A different category. She thinks it’s ridiculous that trans women say they have periods or period pain. She thinks it’s disrespectful to all the beautiful women in her life to say that she has the same experiences as a born woman. I reiterate that I am generally very left wing and will always use the pronouns that someone asks but I don’t know why we should ask everyone their pronouns when it only affects 1 or 2 % of people. I honestly believe we will look back in 20 years and think we were mad. Treat all trans people with respect but don’t make it a bigger issue than it is.

I understand, academically, why religions exist. They serve as powerful vector for culture and social control. That doesn't mean I have to subscribe to one. Another good point being made here is that when religion is not compulsory plenty of people are going to opt out. The indoctrination aspect (which religions of all stripes engage in) is key.

I’m an atheist and majored in psychology. Everyone has a belief system. Not always religion but could be based on reason, common sense and facts. Which is inherently a belief system.

"as far as we know" wouldn't be objective fact. It is theoretically possible to keep the brain and body alive and subsequently reattach them. Regardless of whether or not we have the ability to do so, it is not objectively true that decapitation always results in death.

Regarding relationships with fetuses. Consider: Every day you walk into a bar and have a drink. Every day a beautiful woman comes into the same bar and sits near you while she has a drink. You never have a conversation with her. Sometimes you talk, sometimes you even talk to her, but she never engages. She just finishes her drink and leaves without ever saying a word or even looking in your direction. After a few weeks, you start telling everybody that you have a relationship with her. is it true? Do you have a relationship with this person who has never spoken to you, never shared her thoughts with you, never even responded with a word or even a look? Can you claim "Well, she's heard my voice a lot and she can probably recognize my voice by now, so yeah, we're in a relationship"? Of course not. If you think you have a relationship with her, you're wrong. It's all in your own mind. You IMAGINE a relationship that you don't have. Believing you have a relationship with a person who barely even knows you exist might even make you a stalker. And that's all a father has with a developing fetus. The imagination of a relationship with a "person" (who isn't really a person by any definition outside of a couple insane religious court rulings) that barely even knows you exist, very briefly, and only while you're making untilligle noises near it. That doesn't diminish the love you have for your growing child, or the anticipation of sharing your life with your child, raising them, loving them, caring for them, and all that the future holds. But it's clearly not yet a relationship.
